While the first wave of the snowstorm may have largely missed the region, heavy snow is now beginning to accumulate across the area.
Snow became heavier, and began accumulating in the Bluefield area around 11:30 a.m. Forecasters are still calling for an additional 3 to 5 inches of snow this afternoon.
A second wave of snow showers will impact the Bluefield area this afternoon, according to meteorologist Peter Corrigan.
“There are really two parts to this storm,” Corrigan said. “The initial wave went through. But there is still snow on the radar just very back close to Bluefield. There is more snow forecasted to develop through the afternoon. You are still under a winter storm warning.”
As temperatures drop throughout the day — and fall close to 0 degrees tonight — blowing snow and upslope snow showers will be a problem, Corrigan said.
