Free lemonade flows in the two Bluefields — mercury could hit 90 again today

BRAMWELL — Free lemonade is flowing until 1:30 p.m. today to mark the first 90 degree reading of the summer in Nature’s Air-Conditioned City for 2013.

Lemonade is being served at Chicory Square in downtown Bluefield, Cole Harley Davidson in south Bluefield, Food City in Bluefield, Va. and Graham Square in downtown Bluefield, Va. Free lemonade is served when the official temperature reaches 90 degrees at the Mercer County Airport.

“The record is actually 18 times in 2007,” said Elizabeth Sudduth, lemonade committee co-chair.

“This will be the first of at least 19,” lemonade co-chair Chris Catron predicted.

Miss Cole Chevy Mountain Festival Queen Torri Bradshaw served up some free lemonade for Bluefield State College President Marsha Krotseng and other residents who visited Chicory Square.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Bradshaw said of her first time as a lemonade lassie.

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va. is predicting a high of 90 degrees again today for the Bluefield area.
