Taking the stand in his own defense, a Mercer County man facing charges of sexual abuse and possession of child pornography denied ever receiving pornographic images on his computer or sending text messages to arrange an encounter with a child.
John Spaulding, 41, of Montcalm, who testified for approximately 90 minutes in Mercer County Circuit Court, said former friend Kim Cox, 38, of Nemours, frequently had accessed to his laptop computer and cell phone.
Under cross examination by Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney George Sitler, Spaulding said he never received pornographic photographs from Cox or exchanged texts with her to arrange a meeting with a child at Bluefield hotel in February 2012.
Spaulding, arrested in October 2013, faces charges including multiple counts including sexual assault first degree, attempt to commit a felony, sexual abuse first degree, and 50 counts of possession of material depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The trial began Tuesday.
