Traffic going north again on Interstate 77

BLUEFIELD — After a week of heavy labor by state highway crews and contractors, northbound lanes of Interstate 77 that were closed last week by a major rock slide are now open.

Lanes four miles north of the East River Mountain Tunnel were scheduled to be reopened at 7 p.m., said district manager Tom Camden of the state Division of Highways. The highway reopened early at approximately 6:45 p.m.

Traffic had been rerouted to Route 460 and then to Princeton where it could rejoin I-77. Personnel with the division of highways had hoped to clear the rock slide before the Easter weekend.
