UPDATE: Eyewitness describes horrific Route 52 crash that claimed two children

BLUEFIELD — The investigation is continuing into the cause of a three-vehicle accident that claimed the lives of two children and injured several others.

The accident occurred Wednesday at 6:50 p.m. on U.S. Route 52 near Deliverance Temple in Brushfork. Two children, ages unavailable, died in the accident, according to a earlier report from Lt. J.E. Parks with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department.

Tracy Fowler, a Deliverance Temple member, was an eyewitness to the accident.

“I was in the church parking lot and had just gotten out of my car when I heard a loud crash,” Fowler said. “I turned around and saw a car spinning out of control and another car had hit it, along with a third car that lost control and ran into the church marquee. I dialed 911 and other people in the parking lot ran over to help. There was two small children in the back seat and a child in the front seat, along with the mother. The child in the front seat had gotten out and kept pointing to his head. There was so much going on at one time.”

Multiple occupants were transported to Bluefield Regional Medical Center and Princeton Community Hospital, Parks said.

Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, Bluewell Fire Department and Bluefield Rescue responded to the scene.

The accident is still under investigation.
