Bowyer bails on court date

BLUEFIELD — A former Princeton Senior High School counselor, who pleaded guilty on child pornography and trafficking charges, is listed as a fugitive on the “America’s Most Wanted” website. Brett David Bowyer, 33, of Princeton failed to appear for sentencing in Bluefield.

The TV show “America’s Most Wanted” also featured Bowyer as a fugitive on Sept. 14.

He was last seen in Princeton, but could be in other areas of the state, as well as Virginia and Chicago, Ill.

According to Inspector Christopher Lair with the U.S. Marshals Service in Charleston, Bowyer told friends and associates he was going to leave the state and possibly travel to Chicago.

“I am not sure what ties he has there,” Lair said.

Bowyer pleaded guilty before United States District Judge David A. Faber in Bluefield on Oct. 3, 2011. He admitted to possessing more than 600 images and videos depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. He said he downloaded, received and shared child pornography using the Internet. The man failed to appear for sentencing on May 30 in Bluefield.

According to the website, Bowyer is 205 pounds and 6 feet, 2 inches tall. He is described as bald, with brown eyes and may have facial hair. He is known to be in good physical shape.

Bowyer is wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service. Lair said anybody with information about Bowyer can contact the U. S. Marshals Service at 304-347-5136.

Lair said he was not sure if the Sept. 14 episode resulted in any new leads. Calls made to investigators on the case were not immediately returned on Monday. Lair said it is possible the episode featuring Bowyer will re-air on TV.
