Fundraisers set to help pay for MTV star's funeral

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — An off-road riding event is planned to honor a MTV reality show star who died this week.

The bodies of Shain Gandee and two others were found Monday in a mud pit in his family's sport utility vehicle near the "BUCKWILD" cast member's Sissonville home.

Gandee's cousin, Ashley Gandee Lewis, says the event is set for Wednesday afternoon in Proctorville, Ohio. She says participants will meet at 4:30 p.m. at the Proctorville Kroger. The cost is $10 for riders and $5 for spectators.

Gandee says she also is accepting donations at a general store she recently opened in Crown City, Ohio.

Proceeds will go to pay for funeral costs. Lewis says the fundraisers were arranged because no parent should have to pay for the costs to bury their own child.
