Bluegrass band Kickin Grass will perform Friday, Aug. 31, at Bluetop Bluegrass beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $10.
The Raleigh, N.C.-based group prides itself on reaching all types of bluegrass and non-bluegrass audiences, incorporating standard bluegrass tunes, rock and country classics and a number of originals into its sets.
“We always try to reach out to bluegrass and non-bluegrass fans alike from the stage,” says band member Jamie Dawson. “We can play the standards with the best of them, but we also like to do a lot of original songs as well as some off-the-beaten-path covers. ... We just love playing bluegrass and we try to share that with our audience as much as possible.”
Lynda Wittig Dawson pens most of Kickin Grass’ original songs. Bass player Patrick Walsh joins in on lead and harmony vocals, and Jamie Dawson adds to the sound as a mandolin player and vocalist. Matt Hooper plays fiddle and Ben Walters, banjo.
Bluetop Bluegrass will be closed Aug. 24-25. The alcohol- and smoke-free venue is located on Route 123 West in Brushfork, 2 1/2 miles past the armory. For more information, call 589-3457.
