Violinists Marc Ramirez and Olivia Hajioff will kick off the first spring concert event for the Blue Mountain Performing Arts on Sunday, March 22 at 3 p.m. The violin and viola du,o Marcolivia have performed extensively throughout the U. S., Russia, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Monaco, Italy, England, Canada, Mexico and Japan.
According to Blue Mountain Performing Arts President Bryant Moxley, Marcolivia will present a concert of mesmerizing and passionate music for the violin and viola.
“The virtuosity of this husband/wife duo is exceeded only by the powerful emotional expression of their performances. Music lovers will not want to miss this concert,” Moxley said.
In addition to live performances, the duo has been featured on radio and television broadcasts. They have performed chamber music at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Ravinia Festival in Chicago, the Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall and with chamber music notables including Leon Fleisher, Awadagin Pratt and Edgar Meyer. Macrolivia have been recipients of a Fulbright fellowship and prizes from competitions including the BBC Young Musician of the Year, the European Violin Competition and the Henryk Szerying Violin Competition.
In addition, they were the only chamber music finalists in the Concert Artists Guild International Competition, 2000. Marcolivia presents master classes worldwide and are artists-in-residence at the Tokyo College of Music.
The duo is on the faculty of Shenandoah University, Las Vegas Summer Music Festival and Dartington International Summer Festival and are on the roster of the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center and the Touring Artists for the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
Individual tickets for the Blue Mountain Performing Arts will be available at the door. Adults tickets will be $12 and students tickets will be $6. Season tickets are available at half price. For more information, call (276) 326-4248. The last concert in the Blue Mountain series will be April 23.
