Dobbins to teach pastel workshop in Union

The Monroe Arts Alliance will present Rose Dobbins of Organ Cave as the teacher of a two-day pastel workshop, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8-9. The theme of the workshop is “Pastel Painting, an Experience in Color” and will take place at Genevieve Gillen's Gallery on Swopes Knob, near Union. The class is open for ages 18 and older, of all expertise levels.
Dobbins is a recognized, well-known artist in the area. She is a member of the West Virginia Watercolor Society, Allied Artists of West Virginia and has been juried into Tamarack.
She is an active member and teacher in the Greenbrier Artists, which meets weekly in Carnegie Hall. She has painted numerous commission portrait paintings in oil and pastel for patrons in southern West Virginia.
"I want people to look at my paintings and smile when they see the life and love in the portraits,” Dobbins said.
She moved to West Virginia from Texas and has exhibited in both states, with public and private showings. In 1970, she was a member of the Playhouse of Design in Kingsville, Texas, a guild connected with Texas A & M University.
