Moye reshaping Clerk’s offices

Mercer County Clerk of the County Commission Verlin Moye reports that progress is being made toward needed improvements in the Clerk’s offices. Recently the office obtained a $12,000 Canon microfilm scanner with the help of grant. The county provided 10% matching funds toward the purchase. The new machine will help the office make files easier to access and research.

The office is also upgrading several computers and software. Moye also said that the office was undergoing an audit that he had requested be performed when he first took office and that he wanted the audit simply because that is good business and will help identify any problem areas that need attention.

He said that many other improvements still need to be made.

On the election front, Moye also mentioned that several key office employees in the Mercer County Clerk’s office were going to go to Huntington today to visit the Casto and Harris facility where the election equipment is warehoused. There they will receive a crash course in the election system’s equipment and be brought up to date on some new items.

He said Casto and Harris supplies voting machines and related equipment.

Some of the County Clerk’s people were busy readying a former APCo facility to store and house equipment and supplies for the upcoming election. According to Moye the elections section has been busy working on eliminating many of the “bugs” they have in the election process. Several Clerk’s office employees and Moye have been attending additional training classes offered through the Secretary of State’s office. The Clerk’s office also plans to expand the number of training session available to poll workers.

“Election Day is a long day. Anything we can do to make it better for the poll workers is worth the effort. A warm cup of coffee and a donut might also be appreciated,” said Moye.
