College Men: Hallums has breakout game to lead Rams

MONTGOMERY — The Bluefield College Rams reached the century mark in points for the first time this season, defeating West Virginia Tech 102-92 on Tuesday night.

Byron Carpenter paced the Rams (4-1, 2-0 Mid-South) with 28 points, while Deante Hallums had a career game with 23 points — on 11-of-11 shooting from the field — along with 14 rebounds and two blocked shots.

Andrew Wilson and Kearsten Marion had 19 points each, combining to connect on 7-of-15 from 3-point range. Marion added six assists and five rebounds.

Bluefield, which score 100 points four times last season, will travel to Elizabeth City, N.C. to face Elizabeth City on Friday and Chaflin, S.C. on Saturday.

Alderson-Broaddus 83, Concord 66

PHILLIPPI— The Concord University men’s basketball team suffered its first loss of the season by falling to the Battlers.

The Mountain Lions were led in the loss by senior Damien Tunstalle with 12 points, while sophomore Jordan Davis added 10 points and tied Paul Byrd with a team-high four rebounds.

Eric Bailey scored a personal season-high nine points, while Mike Boyd dished out four assists. The Mountain Lions never led in the game.

In their first games of the season, freshman guard Cam Shannon had three steals and junior forward Nick Ruffin scored five points.

Kurklin Bohanon led Alderson-Broaddus with a game-high 20 points.

Concord (3-1, 1-1) will host West Virginia State on Nov. 29.

Pitt-Johnstown 89, Concord 62

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — Antoine Bryant scored 12 points and dished out three assists, but Bluefield State dropped its season opener to the Mountain Cats.

Vincent Rogers added 11 points and Samuel Ouedraogo led the Blues with six rebounds.

All-WVIAC performer Nick Novak led the Mountain Cats (3-1, 1-1 WVIAC) with a game-high 23 points.

Bluefield State (0-1, 0-1) will host Lander College (S.C.) in the opening night of the Currence Classic on Friday night at the Ned Shott Gymnasium.
