Rams to host scrimmage tonight

BLUEFIELD, Va. — This Friday’s football scrimmage will allow for a unique experience for Ram fans, as the team is now slated to compete in an offense/defense scrimmage with Emory & Henry no longer serving as the opponent. The contest will allow for fans to learn more about their team for the 2013 season, and then connect with players and coaches at the conclusion.

The intrasquad scrimmage will begin at 6 p.m. and is open and free to the public.

With the Rams’ regular season kickoff just over a week away, the scrimmage will allow Head Coach Ordell Walker and his staff an opportunity to give the two sides more reps, while also providing the chance to introduce fans to what will become a normal post-game ritual.

At the conclusion, fans will be invited onto the field to take part in an “afterglow.” This brings fans onto the field and into a huddle with the team, as student-athletes and coaches share positives from the game.

“The afterglow is a special time for players and coaches to encourage one another and share highlights from the experience,” explained Walker, who has led ritual in the past. “We also take time to introduce and say thank you to family and friends for their support.

After sharing what the afterglow is all about and allowing fans, family and friends to experience the sharing, Walker will allow the public to speak during the afterglow at some point this season.
