CU wraps up baseball sweep of Pioneers

ATHENS — Concord University completed a four-game series sweep of Glenville State Sunday with 10-4 and 8-5 wins.

Concord (18-10, 15-7) scored six runs to wipe out a 1-0 deficit in the second inning. Joey Miller drove two in with his eighth home run of the year. The Mountain Lions took a 10-1 lead into the seventh when Glenville State (4-19, 4-15) managed three runs.

Miller was 4 for 4 with four RBI in game one. Brandon Costa was 2 for 3 with two RBI.

Making his first start of the season, Kevin Mack (1-0) earned the victory by allowing one run on eight hits while striking out two batters in four innings.

The Mountain Lions scored seven runs over the first three innings and survived a four-run rally by the Pioneers to clinch the sweep.

Sullivan, Jerrod Groves and Joe Camp all recorded two-hit, one-RBI games.

Senior pitchers Tim Leather (4-0) and Chris Baker, in relief of starter Barinder Rakkar, combined to give up no runs and just three hits in the final 4 1/3 innings of play. Baker collected his third save of the year after scattering two hits over the last three innings.
