Hokies, Mountaineers take road victories

BSC beaten twice

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The West Virginia baseball team scored eight runs in the first two innings en route to a 9-3 victory over UNC Wilmington on Saturday afternoon.

 West Virginia (12-7) pounded out 10 hits and drew seven walks to tie the series at 1-1 after UNCW won game one on Friday in 10 innings.

 Billy Fleming and Bobby Boyd each went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.

The rubber match is set for Sunday with an adjusted game time of 11 a.m.


Virginia Tech 8, Notre Dame 3

WESTFIELD, Ind. — Mark Zagunis drove in three runs and scored twice in the first two innings as Virginia Tech jumped out to an early lead and held on for an 8-3 victory over Notre Dame to even the ACC series at a game apiece on Saturday evening.

Tech (11-9-1, 4-4 ACC) plated four more runs in the second frame as Zagunis and Brendon Hayden notched RBI singles – scoring Ryan Tufts and Perez – Keselica added an RBI double, brining home Zagunis, and Stoffel drove in Hayden with a sac fly to put the Hokies up 8-0.

The teams will conclude the ACC series with game number three on Sunday morning at Grand Park with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m.


Big Blues fall at Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Lynchburg Hornets took a twinbill from the Bluefield State College Big Blues 11-5, 16-5, Saturday afternoon.

In the opening game Dale Davis and Alex Dunn had two hits apiece for BSC and Dunn drove in two runs. J.C. Pennington took the loss.

In the nightcap Davis, Dunn, Ricky Diaz and Jacob Muncy each picked up a pair of hits.

BSC fell to 8-13 with the losses.
