BLUEFIELD, Va. —
Bluefield College’s 2014 football schedule has been announced, highlighted by the team’s season and home opener on August 28 against University of Pikeville, as well as four additional home games at Mitchell Stadium.
“We are extremely excited to compete against 11 quality opponents in 2014,” state Bluefield head coach Ordell Walker, who enters his second year with the program.
Following the Thursday night opener, BC will hit the road for three straight games. On Sept. 6, the Rams will face Presbyterian College, an NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) program. The Blue Hose posted a 3-8 record last season and compete in the Big South Conference.
Bluefield then treks across the Commonwealth to take on the Apprentice School in Newport News, Va., Sept. 13. The Builders are a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association and went 1-9 last season on the gridiron.
“Our program will have a great opportunity to showcase our brand in new regions such as Presbyterian College in South Carolina as well as a trip to the Virginia Beach area—which is the home area of many of our players—to face The Apprentice School,” Walker remarked.
The team returns to Mid-South Conference play for the remainder of the season on Sept. 20, traveling to face Kentucky Christian University.
“We love the challenge of competing against familiar foes in the rugged Mid-South Conference,” Walker stated. “There is a lot of work still to be done, but we can’t wait until opening night at Mitchell Stadium on August 28.”
Walker’s squad then plays its first of two back-to-back home game sets on Sept. 27 and Oct. 4. The Rams host Cumberland University as part of Homecoming Weekend on Sept. 27, then welcome Bethel for the Oct. 4 matchup.
Bluefield then hits the road once again to face Belhaven University and Union College in back-to-back weeks, before getting it’s bye week on Oct. 25.
Home contests against Georgetown College (Nov. 1) and Lindsey Wilson College (Nov. 8) conclude the home slate, while the season will wrap up in Williamsburg, Ky., against the 2013 NAIA national runners-up, University of the Cumberlands.
Times will be announced at a later date.
