WVU travels Tuesday to play Hoyas in NIT

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia will meet Georgetown for the 52nd time at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Mountaineers’ 16th appearance in the National Invitation Tournament, after WVU accepted the invitation on Sunday night.

The game between the former Big East rivals will be televised by ESPN from Washington, D.C.

“We’re happy to be able to continue play in the postseason,” West Virginia coach Bob Huggins said on the school’s athletics website. “Obviously, we are playing a team that we are familiar with and a team that is familiar with us from our Big East battles.

“We’ve had great games recently with Georgetown and in Washington, D.C. at the NCAA tournament. Mountaineer Nation has always turned out in great numbers in games there, and I know they will be there on Tuesday.”

West Virginia won the NIT in 1942 and in its last appearance in 2007.
