Second half run sends Big Blues past Scots

VIENNA — Bluefield State College used a strong second half to dig out of a 12-point halftime hole and defeated Ohio Valley 107-102 in overtime on Tuesday night.

The Big Blues (3-6) trailed OVU’s Fighting Scots 49-37 at the break but took the lead with 11:15 left in regulation, 69-68. Shooting 59 percent from the floor in the second half, BSC forged a 90-90 tie at the end of regulation, and BSC sank a series of foul shots in the extra period to secure the victory.

Five Big Blues reached double-figure scoring. Shakir Dunning had 32 points and three steals; Treon Claiborne had 31 points and 10 rebounds. Joseph Dawkins had 11 points and four assists, while Sergio Smith and Sam Ouedraogo each had 10 points.

David Sinickas had 21 points and 10 rebounds for Ohio Valley (1-6).

Bluefield State returns to Ohio Valley next Tuesday.
