BLUEFIELD, Va. —
On the next-to-last day of their season, the Bluefield State softball team suffered a pair of one-hit shutouts to Wheeling Jesuit 6-0 and 10-0 on Friday afternoon at Graham Rec Park.
The Cardinals’ Ashley Nichols allowed BSC one hit and struck out seven in the opener, which was scoreless until the fifth ininng. Lorain Tharp’s two-run double got the scoring started, and Rachel Conrad hit a solo homer in the seventh to close out the scoring.
Shandi Myles took the loss for Bluefield State.
In the nightcap, Wheeling Jesuit scored in every frame of the five-inning run-rule game. Angie Reddick’s three-run blast pushed the Cardinals lead to 5-0.
Erika Jusko and Ali Smith combined for the shutout win.
Between the games, Bluefield State honored senior Loren Whited who is a three-year starter.
She started game two and came away with the loss after giving up five runs, three earned, over three innings. Whited has accumulated over 100 strikeouts in her Bluefield State career and over 180 in her collegiate career.
The Lady Blues will close the season today in a doubleheader with West Liberty starting at 1 p.m.
