Alderson-Broaddus battles past Bluefield State

PHILIPPI — Alderson-Broaddus held Bluefield State to a season low point total en route to a 53-31 victory over the Lady Blues.

Erica Brooks led the victors with a game-high 12 points, with all 12 coming from behind the three-point line. Shirshawna Dowdy and Leah Hurst netted 10 points apiece while Amanda Peoples narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Dowdy dished out four assists and had three steals.

Tasia Nolan came off the bench to account for a team-high nine points for BSC. She also grabbed six rebounds in 18 minutes of action. Charity Harris snagged eight rebounds for the Lady Blues. She and Dragana Tomic each registered two steals.

The Battlers limited the Lady Blues to 14.1 percent shooting from the floor, including a three-of-22 effort from downtown.  

Bluefield State (10-5, 8-4) travels to Glenville State on Thursday.

PHILIPPI — Alderson-Broaddus fought back from a six-point second-half deficit to keep the Big Blues winless on the season.

The Battlers were paced by O’Dell Eargle’s 13-point, 11-rebound performance. Casey Ainslie added 12 points while Malcolm Tatum totaled 11. Roy Brown chipped in 10 while Kurklin Bohanon added nine. Tatum led the team with three assists.

Roy Cooper came off the bench to net a game-high 17 points for the Big Blues. Vincent Rogers added 16 while Joseph Dawkins tallied 10. Samuel Ouedraogo pulled down 11 rebounds while Steven Pierre had six. Treon Claiborne netted nine.

The Battlers out-rebounded BSC 41-33 but the Big Blues hit 45 percent of their shots to 40.7 percent for A-B. Both teams hit seven three-point shots.

Bluefield State (0-16, 0-12) will visit Glenville State on Thursday,
