Big Blues swept in twinbill by Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — Bluefield State was swept in a doubleheader at Tusculum 14-2 and 13-2 on Sunday at Pioneer Park, which the home of the Greeneville Astros of the Appalachian League.

Vinny Ferrara had three hits and three runs scored, while Tanner Maloof drove in three runs, leading Tusculum to an opening game 14-2 win over the Big Blues.

Bluefield State (9-35) had seven hits, including two apiece by Justin Bowler and Cory Payne. Ridge Sibold was saddled with the loss.

Tusculum (31-21), which scored 41 runs in three wins over the Blues, had 10 hits in the nightcap, led by three from Ferrera and three RBIs for Taylor Foster.

The Big Blues finished with five hits, including two by Tony Bolden.  

Tusculum defeated Bluefield State 14-3 on Saturday in front of 1,734 fans, the most to ever see a Pioneers’ baseball game.

The Pioneers had 14 hits and 10 stolen bases, and the Big Blues committed eight errors.

Ricky Diaz paced Bluefield State with two hits.

Bluefield State will conclude its season on Saturday at Winston-Salem State.
