GLENVILLE — Concord seniors Shawnee Carnett and Donnie Kirk won a combined three individual events and were members of the winning 4x400-meter relay team as the Concord University women's track and field team finished in third place at the Mountain East Conference Championships with 96 points Saturday at Glenville State.

West Virginia Wesleyan claimed the team championship after compiling 290 points. Wheeling Jesuit finished second by scoring 228 points.

Concord track and field coach Mike Cox was selected as the MEC Coach of the Year. In addition, Carnett was named the MEC Athlete of the Year.

Carnett was victorious in the 800-meter run by clocking a time of 2:20.77, and also claimed the 1,500-meter-run in 4:45.20, the third and fourth individual conference titles in her career.

Donnie Kirk sprinted a school-record time of 1:03.97 in the 400-meter hurdles to win her first individual conference championship.

With the help of Carnett and Kirk as well as senior Demi Kirk and freshman Sherrice Williams the Mountain Lions 4x400-meter relay team bested the competition when it clocked a time of 3:57.90 on the way to a four-second victory.

Williams went on to break a school record with an 11.40-meter showing  in the triple jump to finish second. For the weekend Williams broke the school record in both the long and triple jump.

Demi Kirk also recorded a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-meter dash (12.56) and 200 meters (26.00).

Some members of the Concord team will continue their season at the Georgia Tech Invite in Atlanta on May 9-10.
