College briefs: Beamer in Bluefield tonight

BLUEFIELD — The Bluefield/Tazewell Hokie Clubs will sponsor Virginia Tech’s Orange and Maroon Caravan as it makes its annual stop at Fincastle on the Mountain on Wednesday, April 30, with football coach Frank Beamer serving as guest speaker. A social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner prepared by Chef Rick at 6:30.

Tyler Browning of Bluefield State College has been selected to participate as an individual in the 2014 NCAA Region II golf championship tournament. He will begin play on Saturday in the Atlantic-East super region tournament at Edgewood Country Club in Charleston. Browning is a graduate of Man High School. The Concord golf team is also participating, as the No. 8 seed in the Atlantic Region.

Bluefield State College will host the men’s tennis preliminary round in the Atlantic Region of NCAA Division II at Bluefield City Courts. Shaw and Chowan will play on Sunday and the winner will take on the Big Blues on Monday. BSC plans a tailgate event, open to the public, starting at 10 a.m. Monday.
