Mountain East selects McMillion to lead officials

WHEELING — Veteran women’s basketball official Brad McMillion has been hired by the Mountain East Conference to serve as the MEC’s first supervisor of women’s basketball officials.

A resident of Bluefield, Va., McMillion will be responsible for the selection, evaluation and assignment of all women’s basketball officials for every game hosted by a MEC member school. McMillion will begin his duties immediately.

“Brad is a consummate professional with extensive on-court officiating experience at every level of women's basketball,” Mountain East commissioner Reid Amos said.  “He has an outstanding developmental plan for the Mountain East Conference officials under his charge.  I’m very pleased to welcome Brad to the MEC team and look forward to working with him to achieve the highest standards of officiating in NCAA Division II.”

McMillion brings more than two decades of collegiate officiating experience to his new position. Since breaking into the college ranks as a West Virginia Conference women’s basketball official in 1992, he has officiated at every level from NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III to the NAIA.  His postseason officiating experience includes the 2010 NCAA

Division III Final Four, five NCAA Division II Regional tournaments and four NCAA Division II Regional Championship Games along with numerous conference tournament assignments. He also worked as a West Virginia Conference football official from 1993-2010, earning a pair of NCAA Division II playoff assignments.

“I’m excited to be a part of what I feel will be the best Division II conference in the country and very grateful for the opportunity to give back to the game of women's basketball,” McMillion said. “I am totally committed to providing the training, education and support that will make our officials one of the top staffs in the nation and I can’t wait to get started.”

A past president of the WVIAC Basketball Officials Association, McMillion has served on the officiating staffs of numerous conferences during his career, including the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (1992-2013); Southern Conference (1994-2013); Big South Conference (2002-13); Old Dominion Athletic Conference (2001-13); Conference Carolinas (2002-13); South Atlantic Conference (2011-13); Colonial Athletic Conference (2005-10); and the Appalachian Athletic Conference (2001-10).

“Brad McMillion is energetic, organized and has a great passion for the sport of women’s basketball,” said Great American Conference Commissioner Will Prewitt.  “Combine all of those attributes with his on court experience in NCAA Basketball, I’m certain that Brad will do an outstanding job for the Mountain East.”

A native of St. Albans, W.Va., McMillion is a 1985 graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College. He has served as President and CEO of High Impact Media, Inc., an advertising and marketing firm in Bluefield, Va., since 2007.
