Carey wins 250th at West Virginia

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia women’s basketball coach Mike Carey picked up his 250th WVU victory with an 88-56 win over Coppin State, Tuesday evening, at the WVU Coliseum.

“We played better in the second half, that’s it,” coach Carey said. “I’ve been here 13 years. I’m going to say the same thing everyone else says. I’ve had a lot of great players, support and assistant coaches, but, I just think you can win at West Virginia. It’s a great place to coach. Hopefully I can win a few more.”

The Mountaineers (6-1), who have won six consecutive games, were led by Christal Caldwell with a season-best 22 points. Taylor Palmer came off the bench to give WVU a season-high 18 points, 15 in the second half.

West Virginia will close out the week with a 2 p.m. matchup on Saturday against Fairleigh Dickinson at the WVU Coliseum.
