Princeton product McKenzie Akers played 17 minutes for Marshall in a starting role, scoring three points and recording to steals, but the Thundering Herd is still winless in Conference USA, falling 66-52 to East Carolina on Wednesday night.
Shae Nelson paced the Pirates (19-3, 7-2) with 24 points and six rebounds.
Marshall (7-14, 0-8) had no one in double figures, with Aja Sorrells scoring nine points. Suporia Dickens added eight points and nine boards.
