Lady Herd still winless in Conference USA

HUNTINGTON — Princeton product McKenzie Akers played 17 minutes for Marshall in a starting role, scoring three points and recording to steals, but the Thundering Herd is still winless in Conference USA, falling 66-52 to East Carolina on Wednesday night.

Shae Nelson paced the Pirates (19-3, 7-2) with 24 points and six rebounds.

Marshall (7-14, 0-8) had no one in double figures, with Aja Sorrells scoring nine points. Suporia Dickens added eight points and nine boards.

Chowan 80, Bluefield 66

MURFREESBORO, NC — The Bluefield State College Big Blues dropped an 80-66 decision to the Chowan Hawks, Wednesday night. The Big Blues fell to 6-13 while the homestanding Hawks won their second consecutive game and improved to 8-12.

Baseball

Guilford 16, Bluefield State 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Guilford Quakers shut out the Big Blues 11-0, Wednesday afternoon.

Tyler Frazier got the lone hit for Bluefield State in the top of the sixth inning.
