Wright is just right for Rams

EMORY, Va — Jacob Wright had a good week in one game.

The Bluefield senior had three hits, including two home runs, drove in five runs and scored four more, leading the Rams to their 20th win of the season with a 15-2 rout of Emory & Henry on Tuesday afternoon.

Bluefield (20-6) finished with 16 hits, including three by Tyler Timmer and two each from Kahlin Vallines and Zac Russell-Myers. Daniel Copeland drove in three runs and scored three more for the Rams, who had three four-run innings and scored three in another frame.

Kaleb Houchins improved to 3-0 on the mound, combining with William Kane, Dylan Cole and Cory Niten to allow seven hits and two runs.

Matthew McInaw had two hits for the Wasps (7-9), while both Emory & Henry runs scored on a double by Jordan Woullard. Brogan Hoover took the loss for the Wasps.

The Rams needed just 26 games to reach the 20-win mark on the season, the fastest they have reached that total since 2004.

Bluefield will host St. Catharine in a three-game Mid-South Conference twinbill beginning with one game on Friday at 6 p.m.



Carson-Newman 18, Bluefield State 3

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Carson-Newman collected the third most hits in program history, collecting 21 hits and 18 runs in a rout of the Big Blues.

Bluefield State had 12 hits of its own, and even led 1-0 in the first, but the Eagles pulled away from a 6-2 lead with eight runs in the fifth and another four in the seventh.

Joe Tipton, Brandon Roberrts, Bo Ausmus and Peter Rajkovich had three hits each for the Eagles (14-14). Greg Jones drove in four runs with a grand slam while Tipton and Bryan Everhart had three RBIs apiece. Rajkovich also scored three runs in the victory.

Ricky Diaz led Bluefield State (8-9) with three hits, while Alex Dunn, Kyle Blocker and Tyler Frazier added two apiece.

Clayton Eames improved to 2-3 for the Eagles, while Ben Fraley dropped to 2-2 for the Blues, who will play Carson-Newman again today at 2 p.m.
