WVU rifle team claims national title...again

MORGANTOWN —  The No. 1-ranked West Virginia University rifle team secured its nation-best 16th NCAA Championship on Saturday with a score of 4705 at the 2014 NCAA Rifle Championships in Murray, Ky. This marks West Virginia’s second straight crown, and third under eight-year coach Jon Hammond. West Virginia outdistanced Alaska-Fairbanks, which scored 4677. The five shooters for the Mountaineers included Maren Prediger, Ziva Dvorsak, Thomas Kyanko, Garrett Spurgeon and Meelis Kiisk. WVU, the five-time reigning Great American Rifle Conference champions, finished the 2013-14 campaign with a 10-0 overall record and a 7-0 conference mark.
