Concord's Peters, Callaway first in Greensboro run

PLEASANT GARDEN, N.C. — Concord University runners Chelsea Callaway and Robby Peters took first place overall in the women’s and men’s divisions of the Greensboro Invitational Cross Country meet on Saturday.

The two helped the CU team to a second-place overall finish. The Concord men were the highest-finishing team from NCAA Division II.

Callaway, a consistent top-10 finisher this season, recorded a time of 19:51.29. Four other Mountain Lions were in the top 17 of the 67-woman field. Rachel Williams was fifth, Vivian Ruiz ninth and Micalyn Miller 10th.

Peters won his third race of the season with a time of 26:38.33, beating out 58 other runners in one of the best fields that Concord will run against this season. Concordians Sterling Snyder finished third, Nick Lucento placed seventh and Cody Honaker was ninth.

In a final warm-up before the WVIAC Championships, CU will host the Concord Alumni Invitational at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Pipestem State Park.
