Bears attack Bluefield

Pikeville runs past Bluefield College in Mid-South contest

BLUEFIELD — Bluefield College dropped to 0-2 on the season with a 56-13 Mid-South Conference setback on Thursday at the University of Pikeville.

The Bears, which defeated FCS opponent Morehead State last Saturday, was dominant against the Rams, rolling up 527 yards of total offense, scoring 14 points in each of the four quarters.

Seth Millar ran for three touchdowns and Jordan Amis caught a pair of scoring passes, one apiece from A.J. Graham and Reece Browning, as the Bears took a 28-0 lead at the break.

Bluefield finally scored early in the third quarter on a 2-yard run by former Graham standout Lamont Edwards. The Rams’ scored again after two more Pikeville touchdowns on a 57-yard scoring pass to Richard Johnson from Ashten Dixon.

Pikeville (2-0, 1-0) added two more scores in the fourth quarter for the final margin.

Bluefield (0-2, 0-1), which lost its opener 57-28 last week at Point, finished with 283 yards in offense. Dixon led the Rams with 66 yards on the ground. Edwards added 56.

Dixon took over the reins of the Bluefield offense at quarterback and threw for 124 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Johnson led the Rams’ in receiving with three receptions for 69 yards.

Marquis Terrell paced the Bears with 79 yards and a touchdown on the ground, while Millar had 75 yards and Graham finished with 51. Browning threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns, and Graham added 91 yards passing and a score.

Jordan Amis caught six passes for 143 yards and two scores for Pikeville.

Bluefield will return to action on Sept. 21 by hosting Kentucky Christian in its home opener at Mitchell Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
