CU's Carnett makes field for indoor nationals

Anderson, Fertig, Peters make all-region

ATHENS — Shawnee Carnett of Concord has been selected to compete in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Division II Women's Indoor Track & Field National Championships in Birmingham, Ala., the NCAA announced Tuesday.

Carnett, who will compete on March 9, won the 800-meter outdoor championship in 2011.


The Concord men's track and field team had three individuals named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Atlantic Region indoor team this week.

Representing the Mountain Lions were R.J. Anderson in the 60-meter dash, Jeff Fertig in the high jump and Robby Peters in both the 3,000-meter run and the 5,000-meter run.

Anderson learned on Tuesday that he missed qualifying for the Men’s Indoor National Championships by just 0.01 seconds in the 60-meters. Fertig also missed earning a trip in the high jump by only one spot.


Concord cross country standout Chelsea Callaway was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team this week.

Callaway was Concord's tops finisher in six of the Mountain Lions' seven races the fall. She won the Greensboro Invitational and earned All-WVIAC honors by placing fourth at the league championship races.

She closed out the season by placing 69th at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships.


The entire Concord men’s cross country team has been selected to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team. Led by WVIAC Runner of the Year Robby Peters, the Mountain Lions compiled a 3.23 GPA in the fall, second in the WVIAC to West Virginia Wesleyan.

Peters was an all-academic selection was the WVIAC Runner of the Week five times. He just missed qualifying for the national championships by three spots when he placed 17th at the Atlantic Regional Championships.
