Devin Smith and Ryan Johnston both hit home runs on 3-for-4 days, and the Concord University baseball team pounded out 20 hits Sunday to come back from a 3-0 first-inning hole and defeat the University of Charleston 14-10 at Anderson Field.
Joe Camp, who made his first start of the year at first base, and Bret Blevins were 3 for 5 at bat for Concord (19-15, 14-6 WVIAC).
Smith earned the pitching win, going 4 2/3 innings and leaving with the Mountain Lions ahead 8-7. Only three of those runs were earned off Smith (2-2). Chris Baker and Will Zuspan finished out the victory.
Concord expanded its 8-7 lead off RBI hits in the fifth from Andrew Seigel and Smith, as well as Johnston’s home run in the sixth. CU tacked on three additional insurance runs in the eighth.
Charleston (12-18, 9-10) managed just three runs in the final five innings in the loss.
UC recorded 14 hits, including a pair of doubles each from Robbie Collin and Corey Hill. Both batters, along with Tyler Itnyre, had three hits. Igor Molina knocked a solo home run.
