Virginia falters in second half, falls at FSU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Natasha Howard scored 33 points and collected 11 rebounds on her senior day and the Florida State Seminoles shot 61 percent from the floor to beat Virginia 82-70 in their final regular-season game.

Florida State (19-10, 7-9 ACC) broke open a 44-44 tie by going on a 28-10 run in the second half. Brittany Brown was 10 of 11 from the field, finishing with 21 points.

Virginia (13-16, 6-10) led 38-36 at halftime after freshman Tiffany Suarez stole a ball, was fouled on a layup attempt and converted two free throws. But the Cavaliers shot 11-of-38 in the second half and ended making 41 percent of its attempts.

Cavaliers senior Lexie Gerson scored 15 points, with three rebounds, two assists and three steals. Sarah Imovbioh added 13 points and nine rebounds.

Virginia plays Boston College at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the first round of the ACC tournament.
