BUENA VISTA, Va. —
The Bluefield College Rams fell to 0-8 on the season, dropping a 44-18 decision to the Southern Virginia University Knights, Saturday afternoon at Robert E. Williams Stadium.
SVU raced out to a 13-0 lead in the second quarter efore Sam Bennett put the Rams on the board with a 20 yard touchdown run. Then in the final 30 seconds of the half the Knights sealed the deal as they scored two touchdowns t take a 27-6 halftime lead.
Bluefield got a 32-yard touchdown run from Armani Ford in the third period and in the final stanza Clifton Bishop crossed the goal from one yard out.
For the game the Rams out-rushed SVU 204-145 and led in total yards 287-260. The diffrence was in turnovers where he Rams lost two fumbles and tossed three interceptions.
Bluefield led in time of possession 30:08 to 29:52.
Bennett topped the Rams’ rushing column with 87 yards on 13 carries. Ford added 63 yards on 10 rushes.
Joshua Erby completed 10-of-16 passes for 83 yards, but had three picks.
David Gianesin and Rodrell Smith each had four catches, Gianesin for 36 yards, Smith for 28.
Southern Virginia’s Steven Scott led the game with 91 yards rushing on 22 carries and Andy Jones completed 11-of-18 passes for 115 yards and three touchdowns. Jones had one interception.
Dee Sanford hauled in five passes for 58 yards and a TD while Michael Goering had four catches for 39 yards and two scores.
David Cragun had three field goals for Southern Virginia.
Defensively for Bluefield Robert Boatright had eight tackles and Ramir Hollis six. Devin Dean, Harry Hollins, Frank Brooks, Cordell Johns and Carmeron Carter each had five. Hollins had an interception for the Rams.
