Virginia Tech player arrested following fight

BLACKSBURG, Va. —  Virginia Tech tailback Michael Holmes faces charges following a fight in Blacksburg.

Blacksburg police say the 19-year-old Holmes is charged with felony malicious wounding and two misdemeanor counts of assault and battery.

Police say in a news release that Holmes was arrested after officers responded to a fight at 1:50 a.m. Sunday.

Three other people were injured during the fight. Police say two victims were treated at the scene, while the other was taken to a local hospital.

Holmes was being held without bond Monday morning at the Montgomery County Jail. The jail had no records indicating whether Holmes has an attorney.

Under the school’s athletic department policy, any athlete charged with a felony is automatically suspended from all athletic-related activities.
