A-B sweeps Bluefield State softball team

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Ally Hatfield led Bluefield State College with a 3-for-6 day, but the BSC softball team fell 9-0 and 8-2 to Alderson-Broaddus Sunday at Graham Rec Park.

Battlers’ pitcher Vanessa Bodily held the Lady Blues to three hits and no runs in the five-inning first game. A-B scored eight runs on eight hits in the third inning to complete the scoring.

Alderson-Broaddus took a 2-0 lead in game two, but BSC tied it in the bottom of the first on a pair of unearned runs. Reva Davis hit an RBI double to left field to score Megan Dakins and Hatfield scored the tying run on Brittany Cook’s sacrifice fly.

The game remained tied until the fifth when Kayla Rhinehart scored on a passed ball and Kristy Kellog scored on a groundout, and A-B cruised from there. Kellog was 5 for 7 in the doubleheader.

Hannah Whitney earned the win, allowing three hits. Mandy Cokeley came away with the loss after scattering seven hits and surrendering eight runs, three of them earned.
