Bluefield State wins Southern Regional

CHARLESTON — Led by three top-10 individual finishes, the Bluefield State golf team won the 2013 WVIAC Southern Regional Tuesday afternoon at Berry Hills Country Club.

The Big Blues shot a 630 (312-318) to tie Davis & Elkins but won the tie-breaker due to the score of their fifth scorer Tyler Browning.

Senior Jeff McGraw carded a 153 (+13) to lead Bluefield State and to finish tied for second on the individual leader board. Fellow senior Nick Dent was only three strokes back, firing a 156 (77-79) to tie for eighth place and senior Chandler Beavers posted a 157 for his 10th place finish.

Senior T.J. Knight had his best finish of the season, scoring a 164 to tie for 22nd and Browning’s 166 proved to be the deciding factor to help the Big Blues to their first Southern Regional title.

Ohio Valley’s Mark Pritt was the individual medalist with an 11-over par 151.

Bluefield State will look to carry the momentum of today’s win into their final regular season tournament this weekend when they travel to Roanoke, Va. for the Roanoke College Invitational.

The Big Blues have won the last two Roanoke events.
