Concord swept on diamond

ATHENS — The Concord University baseball team was swept by Mountain East Conference rival West Virginia State on Thursday, 5-1 and 9-5 at Anderson Field.

Russell Thompson of the Yellow Jackets was tossing a no-hitter until Bret Blevins singled with two outs in the fourth inning. Blevins was 2 for 3 and stole a pair of bases in game one. Brad Sullivan drove in Concord’s only run.

The second game went to an extra inning with the score tied 5-5.

WVSU  (14-8, 10-8 MEC) capitalized on two home runs and a ground rule double to take the win.

Joey Miller and Joe Camp both launched home runs in game two for Concord (14-10, 11-7).

On the day for the Mountain Lions, Ryan Johnston went 3 for 6 and scored twice, while Sullivan added a pair of RBI on a 2-for-5 outing at the plate.


Wise sweeps Concord

WISE, Va. – The Highland Cavaliers too 8-7 and 10-2 wins from Concord (19-9, 3-3) Thursday afternoon at Cavalier Field.

Kristen Rose batted 3 for 6 and drove in two runs for Concord. Jessica Seymour added two hits, including a home run, and two more runs.

UVa.-Wise (17-6) is now 4-0 in league play.
