Concord softball, baseball drop games; Lady Blues fall

ATHENS — The Concord University softball team started its final week of the regular season on a down note Tuesday, dropping a pair of games to West Virginia State at the CU Softball Field, 7-1 and 6-2.

The highlight of the day for Concord (18-27, 6-14) was freshman Alyssa Morris’ ninth home run of the season in game one, which tied former Mountain Lion Ashley Jackson’s nine-home run year in 2006 for the most homers in a single-season by a Concord player.

Other top contributors for the Mountain Lions included sophomore Jessica Seymour, who had three hits and a stolen base in game two, as well as senior Becca Gleason, who was the only CU player to record hits in both games.

BECKLEY — The Concord University baseball team lost back-to-back games for the first time in over a month Tuesday as Fairmont State got the better of the Mountain Lions in a pair of one-run games 2-1 and 8-7.

The losses snap a five-game Concord winning streak and drop CU’s record to 28-18 overall and 23-9 in West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
