Bluefield’s Morrow named NCCAA’s top Student-Athlete

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Bluefield College’s Jasmine Morrow has been named this week’s National Christian College Athletic Association Division I Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week. The award covers the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 6, in which the sophomore helped the Rams to a 3-2 record on the court.

The honor is Morrow’s second, having earned the same award last year for the week of Oct. 29.

Most notably, the Rams posted a 3-0 record at the Tennessee Temple University Classic, held Oct. 4-5 in Chattanooga, Tenn. Each of Bluefield’s three wins came over fellow NCCAA Mid-East Region opponents, including Mid-Continent University, Hiwassee College and hosts Tennessee Temple.

In those three games, the Woodbridge, Va., native racked up 65 kills and tallied a hitting percentage of .354. Her best hitting percentage of the week came in the team’s 3-0 sweep over Hiwassee, where she hit at a .619 clip. She also totaled 42 digs in the victory.

In the final game against Tenn-essee Temple, Morrow set a season high for digs (22) and a new career high for kills (30).

For the entire week, Morrow had 87 kills and averaged more than 4.5 kills per set. Her attack percentage was .274, while she accumulated 70 digs at an average of 3.6 per set.

Morrow is having a strong attacking season, as she currently ranks 11th in the NAIA in kills per game at 4.18 per game. Meanwhile, Morrow ranks third in the Mid-South Conference in total kills with 234. She is also ranked inside the top ten in the conference in digs per set, averaging 3.4.

Bluefield is on the road for its next two matches, facing Campbellsville and Lindsey Wilson Thursday and Friday. The Rams return to the Dome Gymnasium next week with three home matches beginning Tuesday with Hollins.
