VONORE, Tenn. —
Bluefield College’s Morgan Brewster and Logan Tilley claimed first and third place honors, respectively, in the Hiwassee College Invitational. The tournament, BC’s first of the fall, was played at Toqua Golf Course and Kahiti Golf Course, on Sept. 7-8.
Brewster, a sophomore, took his first collegiate win with a 150 tournament total comprised of rounds of 76 and 74, en route to the four-shot individual medalist honors.
“I hit the ball great this weekend,” said Brewster, a Bluefield, Va. native and Graham High School graduate. “I felt like I had complete control over every club in my bag. I started putting better the second day. It feels great to win and I’m excited about the rest of the season.”
Tilley, a junior from Draper, Va., carded a 155 total (79-76), just one shot out of a tie for second place.
Brewster said his roots are playing a big part in his success.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to practice at Fincastle Country Club throughout high school and now college,” Brewster said. “I feel like that prepares me very well to compete in other tournaments.”
Brewster added, “It’s great to be able to go to a college that not only helps me grow academically and on the golf course, but also spiritually.”
Bluefield will next compete in the Mid-South Conference Fall Tournament on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in George-town, Ky.
