College men: Marshall breaks losing skid

DALLAS — Kareem Canty and Ryan Taylor scored 19 points apiece, leading Marshall to a 73-63 Conference USA win over Rice and snapping a four-game losing skid on Thursday night.  

Marshall (7-13) led 33-22 at the break, and stayed ahead, with Taylor adding eight rebounds and Canty dishing out seven assists. DeVince Boykins added nine points for the Herd.

Rice (5-13) was paced by Sean Obi with 22 points and 17 rebounds. Max Guercy contributed 11 points and five assists.

Virginia-Wise 71, Concord 68

WISE, Va. — Concord saw its losing skid grow to nine with a Mountain East Conference lost to the Highland Cavaliers.

Deon Boyce had a monster game for Virginia-Wise (8-7, 5-6) with 20 points and 18 rebounds. Matt Day added 20 points and eight rebounds, while Javon Moore finished with 19 points and five assists.

Concord (5-12, 2-9), which fell behind 37-21 at halftime, was paced by Mike Boyd with 22 points and four assists. A.J. Williams added 16 points and Cam Shannon added 11.

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Kearsten Marion scored 19 points and Andrew Wilson added 15, as Bluefield snapped a two-game losing skid with a Mid-South Conference win over the Bears.

Kyle Grisby and Alex Lubsey had 12 points each for Bluefield (9-6, 3-5), which will host Rio Grande on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Mark Bryant had 19 points and nine rebounds for the Bears.
