Bluefield drops two at Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Monty Wilson led four Georgetown shooters in double figures with 24 points, leading the Tigers to a 89-73 Mid-South Conference win over Bluefield College on Saturday afternoon.

 The 18th-ranked and defending NAIA champion Tigers outscored the Rams 54-42 in the second half to pull away for the 16-point win.

Bluefield (8-6, 2-5) was led by Josh Nesbit and Alex Lubsey with 14 points each. Andrew Wilson added 12 and Kearsten Marion was held to 10. Nesbit also had 13 rebounds for the Rams, who were beaten on the boards 51-36.

Georgetown (14-4, 5-2) also received 15 points from Trenity Burdine, 13 points and nine rebounds by Deondre McWhorter and 12 points by former West Virginia University recruit Noah Cottrill with 12.

Montavious Marc had 10 rebounds for the Tigers, which won despite committing 20 turnovers to just five for the Rams.

Bluefield, which lost its second straight and third decision in its last four games, will host Shawnee State on Thursday and Rio Grande on Saturday.

Georgetown 98, Bluefield 77

GEORGETOWN, Ky.  — Andrea Howard scored 34 points and grabbed seven rebounds, led the No. 7-ranked Tigers past the Lady Rams.

Georgetown (13-2, 6-1) took a 44-35 halftime lead on Bluefield, which forced 22 turnovers, but made just 38.9 percent from the field. The Tigers were 53.7 percent as a team.

Bluefield (7-8, 2-5) was paced by Teqa McNeal with 17 points, while Janee Simmons added 15 and Asia Wheeler contributed 10. Destiny Tolliver added eight points and seveb rebounds, while Alexis Grant had four steals.

Kourtney Tyra scored 15 points for Georgetown, which matched Bluefield with 13 3s apiece. Lizza Jones added 13 points and four assists for the Tigers, while Devanny King had 12 points and Jessica Foster tossed in 10.

Bluefield, which lost its third game in a row, will host Shawnee State on Thursday, followed by Rio Grande on Saturday.
