BSC falls at Oakland City

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. — Kent State transfer Shakir Dunning scored 23 points and Treon Claiborne added 12, but Bluefield State dropped a hard fought 73-69 decision to Oakland City University on Wednesday night.

Oakland City (12-4) outscored the Blues 41-28 after the break, with Matt Lucas and Brandon Morton contributing 20 points and 11 rebounds apiece. Morton and Ryan Helfert blocked three shots apiece. Helfert also scored 14 points.

Bluefield State (4-11), playing its first game in 2014, also received 13 rebounds from Samuel Ouedraogo, and three assists by Dunning and Dominique Cartier, who also scored nine points.

The Big Blues will host Ohio Valley on Saturday at 4 p.m.
