West Virginia women survive Cyclones

AMES, IOWA —  Linda Stepney scored 16 points to lead three West Virginia scorers in double figures, as the Mountaineers upset No. 13 Iowa State 73-59 on Wednesday night.

West Virginia (15-2) jumped out to a 36-23 halftime lead to win its second straight after having a 13-game win streak snapped with a loss last week to Baylor.

Bria Holmes added 12 points for West Virginia, while Christal Caldwell scored 11 and Averee Fields tossed in 10.

Stepney, Caldwell and Holmes had three 3s apiece, with the Mountaineers going 12 for 30 from long range. Iowa State was 2 for 20 from behind the arc.

Stepney also led West Virginia with seven rebounds and six assists.  

Iowa State (14-2) was led by Hallie Christofferson with 21 points, while Jadda Buckley added 15.

West Virginia will host Oklahoma on Saturday at 2 p.m.
