Emelogu leaving Virginia Tech; Ugoka to play next in Italy

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Virginia Tech’s Ben Emelogu, who averaged 10.4 points per game as a freshman last season, has been granted his release and will transfer to another school, according to media reports.

Emelogu, who had 22 points in a win over West Virginia last year, and also had 21 points against Maryland, is the fourth player to transfer since Buzz Williams replaced James Johnson as head coach after last season.

In addition, incoming freshman T.J. Lang had a change of heart and will now play at Auburn.

Emelogu, who was a captain as a freshman for the Hokies, was second on the team with 44 assists and also pulled down 3.1 rebounds a contest in an injury-plagued season.

Ugoka to play in Italy

Forward Uju Ugoka will continue her basketball career overseas as the Hokie standout has signed to play for Vassalli 2G in Vigarano Mainarda, Italy.

Ugoka wrapped up a two-year career this season at Tech after transferring in from a JUCO prior to her junior year.

The Lagos, Nigeria native made a big impact on the Hokies in a short amount of time and had a standout senior campaign. She averaged 18.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, finishing the season ranked eighth in the ACC in scoring and third in rebounding.
