Gold and Blue day in Princeton today

PRINCETON — Huggins. Holgorsen. Carey.

Some of the top names in the West Virginia University department of athletics will arrive this evening at the Chuck Mathena Center in Princeton for the 44th anniversary of the southern West Virginia stop in the school’s annual “coaches caravan.”

“It is a lot of fun and the atmosphere is absolutely wonderful,” said the event’s chairman, Jim Ferguson. “Mountaineer fans are some of the most loyal and supportive fans you will find.”

The women’s basketball team, directed by Mike Carey, shared the Big 12 Conference championship and spent the latter part of the season in the Top 25.

Men’s basketball coach Bob Huggins and football coach Dana Holgorsen also bring out the fans — who will have plenty of questions and some advice about the Mountaineers’ prospects for next season.

The new Mountaineer mascot, Michael Garcia, is also scheduled to attend, after a long day of visiting local schools.

The Mercer County caravan stop is the longest continuous fundraising function of the Mountaineer Athletic Club, Ferguson said.

This will be the third year the caravan stop has been hosted at the Mathena Center.
