Rams drop opener at NCCAA World Series

MASON, Ohio —  Fresno Pacific University scored multiple runs in three-straight frames on Wednesday in the NCCAA World Series opener to grab an 8-2 lead over Bluefield College, leading to an 8-5 defeat for the Rams in their first game of pool play at Legacy Field.

The fifth-seeded Rams jumped on the score board in the first inning with a single run, but the fourth-seeded Sunbirds jumpstarted their offense with three runs in the second and never trailed again.

Bluefield cut the deficit to one, 3-2, with a single run in the third, but FPU came back with two runs in the bottom half then tacked on three more in the bottom of the fourth for an 8-2 lead.

A single run in the seventh for BC made it an 8-3 game, while two more runs in the ninth for the Rams brought the final to 8-5.

Senior catcher Tyler Lundgren led BC with four hits, while fellow senior Jacob Wright tallied a pair of RBI in the loss.

Bluefield's second game, originally scheduled for 8 p.m. at Prasco Park will be moved to Thursday due to weather. Start time is now scheduled for 11 a.m., still at Prasco Park.

The Rams' game against Trinity Christian originally scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. is now estimated to begin at 1 p.m., Thursday, back at Legacy Field.
