CENTRAL, S.C. —
The Bluefield College baseball team swept a doubleheader on Saturday at Southern Wesleyan University by scores of 6-3 and 10-3 to conclude their season-opening road trip to South Carolina with a 2-1 record.
The Rams clubbed a dozen hits in each of the two games. The homestanding Warriors were plagued with three errors in each game.
For the second straight day, Jacob Wright came up big for Bluefield. He was 3-for-4 in the second game, driving in three runs against his former team as snow flurries fell in the western Carolina foothills.
Zak Russell-Myers was the winning pitcher in the first game, going all seven innings. He gave up seven hits and two earned runs while striking out three batters and walking three.
Warriors starter Chase McElrath took the loss. In 5 1/3 innings, he gave up eight hits and four runs, three of them earned.
Justin Lykins picked up the win in the second game. The Rams broke open a 4-3 contest in the top of the fifth inning by scoring five runs while SWU reliever Tim O’Callaghan toiled on the mound. Starter Justin Adams took the loss.
The Rams compete this Friday and Saturday in the Tennessee Valley Invitational in Cleveland and Dayton, Tenn.
