ATHENS — Freshman guard B.J. Hamlet connected on seven three-pointers on his way to 25 points and Terry Hopewell added 21 points to lead the Concord University men’s basketball team to an 83-71 victory over Glenville State in Mountain East Conference play Thursday night at the Carter Center.

The win, Concord’s second in a row, improves the Mountain Lions’ record to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in MEC contests. The Pioneers fell to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in league play.

The Mountain Lions shot a season-high 57.1 percent (32-for-56) from the field. 26 of CU’s 32 field goals came off of assists. Thanks in large part to Hamlet’s seven triples, Concord made a season-best 10 three-pointers. Concord also took care of the ball at an exceptional rate, committing a season-low 11 turnover. Conversely, Concord forced Glenville State into 17 miscues.

For the game, Hamlet was 9-for-14 from the field overall and 7-for-10 from three-point range. In the paint, Hopewell finished 8-for-10 from the field while grabbing four rebounds and blocking one shot. Five of Hopewell’s eight field goals came off of dunks.  A.J. Williams was CU’s third player in double figures with 14 points to go with five assists and four rebounds.

Setting up Concord’s offense was point guard Mike Boyd, who dished out a career-high 11 assists while committing just one turnover. Boyd’s assist total is the most in a game by a player from a MEC school this season.

Concord will look for its third consecutive win 4 p.m. Saturday at West Virginia Wesleyan.
